GRIFFON HOVERWORK’S BHT IS INSPIRED BY AND DERIVED FROM THE WELL PROVEN AP1-88 DESIGN, WHICH IS OPERATIONAL IN OVER 15 LOCATIONS AROUND THE WORLD.
BHT 130 “SOLENT EXPRESS” WAS BUILT IN 2007 TO LLOYDS REGISTER OF SHIPPING FOR PASSENGER OPERATIONS IN
THE UK.
SHE IS CAPABLE OF CARRYING 130 PASSENGER PLUS CREW.
SOLENT EXPRESS HAS UK MCA CODING AND IS BUILT TO HIGH SPEED CRAFT CERTIFICATION.
UP UNTIL RECENTLY SHE HAS OPERATED ON THE HOVERTRAVEL ROUTE CARRYING PASSENGERS FROM PORTSMOUTH
TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT (UK), AND HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY MAINTAINED HER WHOLE LIFE.
THE CRAFT WAS LAST USED ON 6TH AUGUST 2013.
AT JUST UNDER 30M IN LENGTH SHE IS POWERED BY TWO MTU DIESEL ENGINES FOR PROPULSION AND TWO MTU ENGINES FOR LIFT;
THE CRAFT HAS A PAYLOAD OF 22.5 TONNES AND IS CAPABLE OF SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 45 KNOTS, IN UP TO 2M SEAS.

SET IN A PASSENGER CONFIGURATION, THE CRAFT HAD A MAJOR OVERHAUL IN 2010.
THE ISLAND EXPRESS PAPI – 88/100S HOVERCRAFT IS MANUFACTURED MAINLY FROM WELDED MARINE ALUMINIUM
AND IS POWERED BY FOUR DIESEL ENGINES.
THE PRIMARY STRUCTURE COMPRISES BUOYANCY TANKS, FORE AND AFT SHEAR WALLS AND ENGINE AND FAN MOUNTING STRUCTURES.
THE FLEXIBLE SKIRT IS ATTACHED TO THE SECONDARY STRUCTURE WHICH IS OUTBOARD OF THE PRIMARY STRUCTURE AND CONTAINS THE LIFT ENGINES AND LIFT FANS.
THE PASSENGER CABIN CONTAINS SEATING FOR 95 PASSENGERS AND IS ENTERED AT PORT AND STARBOARD DOORS AT THE REAR OF THE CABIN. A DOOR AT THE FRONT OF THE CABIN IS FOR CREW ONLY BUT MAY BE USED IN AN EMERGENCY.
HAND BAGGAGE RACKS ARE PROVIDED AT THE REAR OF THE CABIN. PANNIERS ON THE AFT SIDE DECKS CARRY THE HEAVIER LUGGAGE.
THE CONTROL CABIN IS RAISED ABOVE THE PASSENGER CABIN AT THE FORWARD END. ACCESS IS BY A DOOR IN THE PORT SIDE OF THE CONTROL CABIN WHICH MAY BE GAINED BY A LADDER FROM THE FORE DECK OR BY A LADDER FROM THE PORT AFT SIDE DECK.
ALTERNATIVE ACCESS IS BY AN INTERNAL LADDER FROM THE PASSENGER CABIN THROUGH A HATCH IN THE CONTROL CABIN FLOOR.

HOVER GRIFFIN (EX COURIER) WAS BUILT IN 1989 AT THE AUSTRALIAN SHIPYARD NQEA.
AFTER COMPLETION THE CRAFT WAS SOLD TO HOVERWORK UK AND SHIPPED TO COWES UK.
HOVERWORK SOLD HER TO ANOTHER COMPANY IN SPAIN TO RUN SERVICE BETWEEN GIBRALTAR AIRPORT AND CITY IN 1992.
THE CRAFT WAS LATER SOLD TO A COMPANY IN SPAIN WHO TOOK HER TO IBIZA TO TRAFFIC THE ISLANDS (FORMENTERA, IBIZA).,
AFTER WHICH HOVERWORK PURCHASED THE CRAFT AND BROUGHT HER BACK TO THE UK WHERE THEY STRETCHED (100S FOR STRETCHED)AND REFITTED THE CRAFT BETWEEN JANUARY TO MAY 2000 WITH NEW ENGINES (L.C. MTU).
CUBAN PILOTS BOUGHT HER IN 2000 AND SHIPPED HER TO CUBA.
THE CRAFT HAS BEEN USED FOR FERRY OPERATIONS BETWEEN BATABANO (SOUTH OF HAVANA) AND THE ISLAND OF
CAYO LARGO.
SHE WAS THEN BOUGHT IN 2007 AND SHIPPED IT TO BAHAMAS/FREEPORT FOR A MAJOR REFIT AT THE BRADFORD
